Blog Post Week 1 (Pseudomonas Project)

Recap of what we have done with our Pseudomonas team: We had our introductions and have some new people on board for this semester. We started off by learning about Pseudomonas and its effects and then we learned how to do our primers and what gene we would need to look for. So far we have now collected water samples from various locations around campus and we filtered them, put them on a plate (PF, PiA) and grew the culture overnight. We then have inoculated from the growth of the plate into a broth and incubated that. Today we are in our process of conducting our first protocol and wait until next week to read the results and continue with our research.

  1. This reminds me of an experiment I did in my microbiology class last semester. It is really cool how we can use these same experiments to relate to areas around us. The only issue is that experiments like these make me even more nervous when I touch anything when I am going outside. I tend to remember how many bacteria I found on a petri dish when I use a public bathroom.

Response: Hey, Oliver you're research looks pretty cool. especially since you have other people you are working with so there fore you guys could all share different ideas. Its interesting how your team will be creating a protocol of it own for the project. What are you looking to do with the information when its concluded by the way?
